Glendronach 15 year old

What a whisky!! If you like a sherry bomb, you’re in luck. This has to be one of my favorite whiskies of last year. Glendronach is a pedigree and have a bunch of great vintaged malts that have been amazing in craftsmanship. It has it’s own little cult following amongst the whisky die-hards but it’s not like the vogue-cult of Ardbeg. It’s not cool and limited so it becomes expensive and unobtainable by the masses. No. It’s more of a masonic lodge and if you don’t know the handshake, you’re not getting in. OK, so maybe that’s taking it a bit far. Glendronach groupies love to share their favorite whisky with all. They want you to be shocked at the quality and price and how easy it is to get your hands on a bottle without having to sell your first born for it. Anywho, let’s not deviate too much from our path, I still have another 70 reviews to write if I want to finish them off before getting stuck into the dozens I’ve tried in 2015 so far. I know what you’re thinking. It’s a hard life but someone’s got to do it.

Glendronach 15

Glendronach 15, on the nose, this whisky is Christmas. Matured exclusively in Olorosso Sherry Butts, the whisky smells like heaven. Even after drinking bottles of it last year, I still spend at least 10 minutes with my nose in the glass before I take a sip. That, my friends, is testament to the awesomeness of this whisky. On the Nose Christmas cake, Vanilla and orange sponge cake doused in a rich Sherry. Next on to the Palate. This dram is so thick and creamy you feel like you could spread it over a slice of bread and eat it. Huge vanilla, raisins, sherry, chocolate orange with sweet citrus rind lurking just under the surface. Then come the spices. Cinnamon and cloves with a little peppery spice lead you into an even spicier Finish. A little tartness is there before some more citrus tickle your senses. The finish is medium long. It hangs about just long enough before you get your head stuck in the glass for another ten minutes. Another great whisky with another great price point. Definitely one to keep around all the time.
